Here’s a question I know people wonder, but sometimes are afraid to ask when looking for a Cancun hotel – What is exactly is an Adults Only Resort?
Cancun is a place that has something for everything – including many adults only resorts for those who want to vacation, well, with other adults. Many people have misconceptions about adults only resorts and avoid them; while others return year after year.
Below are some myths about Adults Only Resorts in Cancun that might help you decide if staying at one while in Cancun is for you.
Myth #1: Adults Only Resorts are Only for Nudists and Swingers
In fact, the majority of Adults Only Resorts in Cancun require to keep your pants on. While some are indeed of the clothing-less variety, many adults only resorts are simply more romantic or have an age limit for those who don’t want their vacation interrupted by children.
A lot of luxurious or romantic all inclusive resorts are designated as adults only in order to give their clients the intimate experience they expect. Resorts like the 4-star Le Blanc Spa Resort (18+) and the Royal in Cancun (16+) are great for honeymooners and people who want to vacation without distraction.
Myth #2: There is Sex Everywhere
While some Cancun adults only resorts are okay with you walking around in the nude or topless in designated areas, they do request that sexual encounters occur in the privacy of the guest rooms.
Temptation (21+), where topless sunbathing has the okay, and Desire (21+), where the nude jacuzzi is the main attraction, both prohibit public sexual acts.
Do keep in mind, however, that some people may attempt to stretch or even break the rules. But this has the potential to happen at any resort in any location.
Myth #3: All Adults Only Resorts are Couples Only
Some Cancun adults only resorts, like the Sun Palace (18+) and Desire (21+), are in fact couples only. However, they are the exception more than the rule. Most adults only resorts cater to singles just as much as couples. They can be a great way to meet other singles as many of the activities are geared towards adults.
However, it is important to research the hotel ahead of time and see what type of clientele they typically attract.
Myth #4: Adults Only Resorts are Low Quality
Many adults only resorts are some of the top rated hotels in Cancun. The Le Blanc Spa Resort recently won the 5 Diamond AAA award for 2011 and the Orbitz Best In Stay Award for Best All Inclusive with a rating of 4.9 out of 5.
The Royal in Cancun is the first hotel in the area to win The American Academy of Hospitality Sciences’ International Star Diamond Award.
