10 Things to Ask Before Booking A Cancun Activity

Cancun isn’t just about enjoying the beautiful beaches - it  has all kinds of activities to offer; like sailing, scuba diving, parasailing, and more. There are many companies that offer these fun excursions all around Cancun.

As soon as you get off the plane you will be bombarded with fliers for trips to Xcaret, scuba diving adventures and swimming with the dolphins. Your hotel will have fliers for snorkeling cruises, sunset cruises and day trips to Chichen Itza.  Walking along the beach, you will be asked to go parasailing and rent jet skis.

But how do you know which one to pick?

Here are 10 useful questions that can ensure your Cancun activity is smooth sailing:

1. How do I know this company is legit?

There are a lot of extracurricular activity companies you can find online – but how do you know if they are real? It is always a good idea to call the concierge at hotel you are staying at to see if they have done business with the company before. If they haven’t, the concierge can suggest companies that offer the same activities you are looking to do.

2. Is this the right company for me?

Before settling with the first company you find, do your research! There are many activity companies in Cancun that all offer similar adventures, but those small differences may change your whole experience.

3. Where are the testimonials?

Testimonials are a great source of customer feedback – check the company’s website, TripAdvisor, Expedia, anything. These testimonials can give you an insight to the company you may not be able to find on their website.

4. What does the price include?

Does the price include transportation to and from the hotel? Does it include a meal? Does it include gratuity for any guides or instructors for the activity? These questions will help you avoid surprises.

5. How long does the activity last?

Is the activity for a few hours, or the whole day? This can help you avoid overscheduling your day and exhausting yourself.

6. Are they picking me up?

Will you have to meet at a remote location away from the hotel or will the company come and pick you up? This is important to ask to know if you need to arrange for transportation – and determine how much it costs.

7. What’s the weather going to be like?

Nothing is worse than planning a sailing activity only to find that the rain has spoiled your plans. Make sure you check the weather forecast before you plan your Cancun activity.

8. What is the cancellation policy?

If the unexpected happens, it is always good to know the cancellation policy of your Cancun activity. Some companies will allow you to reschedule without a fee, but others may charge a small fee. Always assume there is about a 24-hour cancellation window, but safely double check just to make sure.

9. Is this activity for the whole family?

Almost all Cancun activities are for the whole family – but some cater to adults only (these may include horseback riding on the beach, etc). Usually activities for children under a certain age will have a discounted price as well.

10. What physical condition is required for this activity?

While some Cancun activities are relaxing, some will keep you moving around for hours at a time.  It’s a good idea to make sure that you’re able to enjoy all of the fun activities offered by the company!

Have you ever booked a Cancun tour or activity? What were some of the questions you asked?
