Cancun Nightlife Do’s and Dont’s

The last time I went to Cancun with a few girlfriends, we had a blast. We layed out at the beach every day, we had amazing food, and we went out almost every night.

Since most of us were girls, we thought it would be best to lay some “ground rules” before we went out so that we all stayed safe. It was probably one of the best ideas we had during our trip.

Here are some of the do’s and don’ts we came up with to make our night enjoyable and stress free:

Do:

1. Have a Plan

It is always a good idea to have a plan – where you are going to go, how you are getting there, how long you are going to stay, and where to meet each other after the fun. If you leave the hotel without a plan, you risk your safety and communication.

2. Have a Buddy

For ladies, no matter where you are enjoying nightlife, is it always good to have a trusted friend accompany you when you leave the dance floor. From a quick trip to the restroom, to getting a drink at the bar, it’s a good idea to travel in pairs. In fact, no matter who you are you should still have someone watching your back. When people drink, it can lead to bad decisions and it’s best to have to some one to talk you out of that decision or at least be there to help you with the consequences.

3. Tip Upfront

For the best service, tip the bartenders upfront. If you give them a decent amount, they will remember you and your favorite drink. Also, it is always better to take cash as some bars/lounges may not accept credit cards for small payments.

4. Stay in Populated Areas

Stay with friends in an area with many people, just as you would if you were enjoying nightlife anywhere else.

5. Use the Bus

The public bus runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and the fare is about $7.5 Mexican Pesos– much less than any taxi service would cost. You can find a bus schedule at each stop and online. Also taxis in Cancun run on “zone” rates and if you are not paying attention it’s easy for you to be taken advantage of.

Don’t:

1. Meet at the Club

If you and your friends want to enjoy the Cancun nightlife together, it is always best to go together. The Cancun’s hotel zone nightlife area can become very crowded and it may be very difficult to find the rest of your party. Also if you are traveling from the States or Canada, it’s unlikely that all of you will have cell phones. Don’t leave it to chance.

2. Leave the Club Alone

Do not leave the club by yourself (even if you know how to get back to the hotel), or with a stranger. Cancun’s hotel zone is safe, but it is always better to travel in groups. Remember to use your judgment just as you would in your hometown.

3. Leave Your Belongings Unattended

Just as you would be cautious with your things at home, don’t leave any personal items, including your drinks, unattended. Since the Cancun nightlife venues can be crowded, it can be very easy for someone to pick up your things or manipulate your beverage. That being said, don’t accept drinks from strangers!

4. Forget Where the Exits Are

In case of any emergency, don’t forget where the exits are. This can also prevent you from getting lost on your way out if you have had too much to drink.

5. Forget to Drink Water

Know your limits, and don’t forget to drink water! These are probably some of the most important tips to keep your night safe and enjoyable. Buy a bottle of water before going out and keep it with you throughout your night.

I hope these help you and your friends in Cancun. Where are some of the places you go to enjoy the Cancun nightlife? What tips do you have for other readers?
